See These Bones

This entry was posted December 27th, 2007 and has 1 comment.

There are days every once in a while when I hear a song and, for whatever reason, that song just fits my day perfectly. I was listening to the new Nada Surf album “Lucky” this morning on my way down to DC, when I was struck by the first track, See These Bones. After listening to the entire album, which is pretty good, I played See These Bones again and ended up listening to it on repeat for the rest of the day.

It’s hard to articulate exactly why this happens or even why I like this song so much. Maybe it’s the guest vocals from Ben Gibbard, or the way the song starts off with kind of a heavy feeling then begins to sound more hopeful and joyous as it builds, before reaching it’s climax with layered vocals singing,

“Do you remember when the light was low?
Do you remember it fell?
Do you remember when we went through her house?
Remember ringing the bell?”

and

“Look alive
See these bones
What you are now
We were once
Just like we are
You will be dust
Just like we are
Permanent”

I really don’t know what it is about this song or why I listened to it so much today, but each time it was finished, I wanted to hear it again.

Do Work Son - Rob and Big Season 3

This entry was posted December 20th, 2007 and has 2 comments.

It’s true. Most MTV shows nowadays just aren’t that good. Real World, for example, has the most obnoxious and dull-witted cast of all time. It is actually physically painful to watch these morons argue and sling 5th grade-style insults at each other.

Not to mention another horrendous show, A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, which is quite unbearable to watch. I guess all you have to do to get a show on MTV is have lots of MySpace friends. That’s who she is, right? It’s amazing what passes for celebrity these days.

Now there is one exception to this rule; one show that stands heads and shoulders above the rest of the MTV lineup. A show that is not only hilarious, but makes you want to actually have the life you see on the screen. A show that delivers fantastic one-liners - Do work; Dirty Girl; Bobby Light; and so many more - and is also creative.

If you haven’t been watching Rob and Big over the first 2 seasons, now is your chance to catch on and enjoy.

Merry Christmas

This entry was posted December 19th, 2007 and has no nomments.

Here’s wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. 2007 has been a great year full of many new adventures and good times. In the next week or so I’ll have a year-end post to celebrate what’s happened in 2007 and look ahead to what’s to come in 2008.

I’m taking next week off from work (but not from blogging) and am really looking forward to having some time to relax and spend with my family and good friends. My shopping is just about done, and I still have a few holiday parties to look forward to.

Merry Christmas to all of you. Thanks so much for reading this blog, whether it’s every week or only once in a while. I truly appreciate it. Also, thanks to everyone who came to our 5th annual holiday party this past Saturday. I had a blast and I hope you did as well. If you have pictures, please email them to me so I can post some.

Here’s a special Christmas wish for all of you.

Top Albums of 2007

This entry was posted December 13th, 2007 and has 6 comments.

I know every music site or blog out there is putting out their top 50 or 100 albums of 2007 now, so I had to get in on the action. Instead of rating or ranking the albums based on which are the best, I’m just going to share the albums I’ve been listening to most this year.

If there’s something on the list that you haven’t heard, go out and get it. If there’s an album you love that I don’t have, please share it with me. I’m always looking for new music.

So, without further adieu, here are the albums from 2007 that I’ve enjoyed listening to the most.

Christmas Party Time

This entry was posted December 13th, 2007 and has 1 comment.

That’s right friends, this Saturday is the 5th annual Christmas Party extravaganza at 6027 Stanton. We’ve already received tons of RSVPs from friends and friends of friends. There’s really no way to tell exactly how many people will come, but there is one guarantee. This party will be a blast. If you come, you will have fun. Guaranteed.

Our buddy Greg is even coming up from Roanoke, VA with his wife and possibly some surprise guests for the party. So, there is really no excuse for you not to come. If you were invited, that is.

This time of year always seems to be filled with holiday parties to go to. Tuesday was the Big Brothers Big Sisters holiday party at Ravens Stadium. I took my little brother Tyler and we definitely had a ton of fun. There were lots of things for the kids to do and they also had DJs from 92Q spinning music the whole time. The funniest sight was when they played Soulja Boy and every kid stormed the dance floor to do the Superman dance. There were even kids that couldn’t have been older than 6 out there doing it.
