100 Miles Run
As of yesterday, I hit the 100-mile mark since I started running again in January. During this time I’ve been using the Nike Plus system. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a chip and sensor that allows your shoes to talk to you iPod Nano and transfer your run data back and forth. Then, you can go to nikeplus.com to log and view all of your runs. It’s a pretty amazing tool and has made finding the motivation to go running much easier.
I used to dislike running. But now, the more I do it, the more I really enjoy it. That’s a tough statement for most people to understand. How could you like running?
It’s actually kind of a hard thing to explain. Running, at it’s most basic, is such a repetitive process. Breathe in and breathe out. Place one foot in front of the other. It’s really pretty simple.
Because of its repetitive nature, though, running allows you to either think or completely clear your head. Since your body is busy performing the action of running, your mind is free to sort of wander wherever it decides to.
There’s also something very cleansing, physically as well as mentally, about sweating out all of the heat, stress, and energy that your body holds onto.
I originally began running to train for the triathlon I did in June. My new goal is to run the Baltimore Half Marathon in October. It’s 13 miles, so if anyone is interested in doing it with me, let me know. I’m also always looking for people to run with.
