I wrote this post for my agency’s blog and wanted to include it here as well.
It’s not news that the United States economy, as well as the global economy, is in serious turmoil. The US government is pondering the largest bailout in history and the unemployment rate continues to climb. In such an unsure and volatile time, does it make sense for your company to cutback or stop advertising to decrease your expenses?
Initially, this may seem like the best course of action. However, history has shown that companies can receive great value by advertising and continuing to innovate during a down economy.
Here are a few reasons why:
Fewer advertisers mean better rates
At Media Works we have seen this firsthand. When other advertisers stop or reduce their spending, it opens up inventory and reduces rates. This allows clients to get even more value for their advertising dollar.
Instead of the typical yearly increase in media costs, we have seen at least a 10-15% drop in ad rates. For certain forms of media, the reductions are even larger. Our clients’ ad dollars are going farther, giving them increased exposure for the same spend. This savings on current media buys also allows companies to invest in testing new media or technologies.

That’s right friends, this Saturday is the 5th annual Christmas Party extravaganza at 6027 Stanton. We’ve already received tons of RSVPs from friends and friends of friends. There’s really no way to tell exactly how many people will come, but there is one guarantee. This party will be a blast. If you come, you will have fun. Guaranteed.
Our buddy Greg is even coming up from Roanoke, VA with his wife and possibly some surprise guests for the party. So, there is really no excuse for you not to come. If you were invited, that is.
This time of year always seems to be filled with holiday parties to go to. Tuesday was the Big Brothers Big Sisters holiday party at Ravens Stadium. I took my little brother Tyler and we definitely had a ton of fun. There were lots of things for the kids to do and they also had DJs from 92Q spinning music the whole time. The funniest sight was when they played Soulja Boy and every kid stormed the dance floor to do the Superman dance. There were even kids that couldn’t have been older than 6 out there doing it.

That’s right folks. The day many have been awaiting for years is finally here. The Simpsons Movie releases this weekend, but I’ve managed to score a few premiere tickets for tonight at The Senator Theatre.
With all of the hype and well-executed marketing surrounding this movie, I’m sure everyone’s expectations are very high. Speaking of fantastic marketing, the collective genius at Crispin Porter Bogusky have outdone themselves on this campaign. Between converting several 7-11s into Kwik-E-Marts, SimpsonizeMe, and some great TV spots that promote the movie and Burger King, the marketing surrounding this movie has been well thought out and executed.

Sometimes, it can be quite difficult to get motivated to do work on a Monday morning. Today is one of those such days. I think the answer to this problem is 1. coffee and 2. good music. I just made some coffee and am listening to a new CD, well at least new to me. The CD is Paranoid by the band Rescue. Good stuff. Also, the self-titled album by Ola Podrida is fantastic.
I really try not to let myself get stressed out, but this past week has made that somewhat difficult. My roommates and I have been searching for a new place to live, as our house has been sold. We have until June 27, but would really like to be settled in the place by June 15. I hate hearing about how stressed people are, and I hate even more talking like that. I mean, what good does stressing out ever do? I really just have to trust that everything will work out how it’s supposed to and that the next living situation will be just as positive as the current one.
There are a couple of other things happening, but none that I’m going to get into today. Maybe tomorrow.
So this is my first post in this new blog. I’m going to try to post multiple times a week, about whatever I feel like. Here goes.
