Chinese New Year

Xin nein kuai le.

Last night we celebrated Chinese New Year and rang in 2008, the year of the rat. After journeying around the city all day we grabbed a quick bite to eat and then went out in search of people celebrating the new year. All through the city there were people walking around and setting off fireworks. We then stopped in the Hyatt bar that overlooks The Bund. We were up really high and had an awesome view of the river and all of the buildings surrounding it.

The Hyatt was a little too dull and expensive for our tastes, so we headed over to Malone’s. This place was actually a lot of fun. We even met a bunch of random English-speaking people and hung out with them for the rest of the night. After Malone’s we capped off the night with a visit to the 24-hour diner before taking a cab home at around 5 am.

Needless to say, today is a bit more low key. We’ll probably head out for some dinner tonight and maybe even go to a local hip hop club. I’m really interested to see what that’s all about. My plane leaves tomorrow evening and I’ll be home late Friday night. This trip has been a blast so far and the week has gone by really fast. It’s been great, but it’s always good to be home. See you all when I return.
